Gloria Houngʼs recent artworks are photographic documentations of framed and reframed moments that straddle the narrative and performative. These photographs are not digitally manipulated - they are “straight” photographs. Narratively, they ambiguously encompass events that are part- travelogue, part- autobiographical. Performatively, they are willful actions that mirror interior dialogues. They are often photographs of photographs, creating a deliberate confusion in the spacial construction of what is depicted. The works are windows onto an intimately contextualized world.

Gloria Houng (born Washington State, U.S.A.) completed her MFA in Fine Arts degree at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2012. She also has degrees in Sculpture and English Literature respectively from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and the University of California, Berkeley. Her photographs, videos and sculpture often document performative actions and the autobiographical absurd.  Recent exhibitions have included: LACDA 2014 International Juried Competition, LACDA, Los Angeles, CA; Die Lange Nacht der Museen, Gerichtshöfen, Berlin, DE; and Up and Coming, curated by Kids of Dada, Hoxton Gallery, London, UK.
